AREA’s Mark Sage joins The XR Beat to discuss pilot purgatory, enterprise AR use cases and the work needed to move from trial to deployment.
Enterprise AR pilots often prove that a task can be improved, then stall before the technology becomes part of daily operations.
In this interview, Luke Williams speaks with Mark Sage from AREA, the Augmented Reality for Enterprise Alliance, about why pilots get stuck and how companies can prepare for wider rollout.
Security reviews, weak ROI evidence, limited executive sponsorship and poor end-user involvement can all hold projects back. Vendors also need to understand the working environment. Noise, PPE, cramped spaces and existing processes can quickly expose a solution built around the demo rather than the job.
Mark’s advice is simple: “Plan big, deliver small.”
IT, security, safety, finance and operations should be considered early, even when the first deployment is narrow. AR tools also need to connect with the business systems employees already use. Isolated data can leave a promising pilot out of date and disconnected from normal workflows.
