A recent WARN filing shows 76 permanent layoffs at Magic Leap’s Sunnyvale site, adding to the 193 planned cuts at its Florida headquarters
Magic Leap is planning to cut another 76 jobs at its Sunnyvale, California site, taking the known number of US roles affected by its restructuring to 269.
California’s WARN report lists the 76 reductions as permanent, with layoffs due to take effect on 1 October. The entry covers Magic Leap’s site at 1376 Bordeaux Drive and was processed by the state on 20 July.
The filing follows Magic Leap’s planned reduction of 193 roles at its headquarters in Plantation, Florida. Those layoffs are scheduled for 1 and 2 October.
The California report doesn’t identify which teams or positions will be affected. It also doesn’t say whether any of Magic Leap’s current partner programmes will be disrupted.

Magic Leap hasn’t yet responded to a request for comment, but when asked about the earlier Florida redundancies, Magic Leap said:
Our focus is on supporting impacted employees and helping our teams stay focused on the work and priorities ahead. Magic Leap has multiple projects and partnerships we’re focused on, and our employees are a critical part of our success.
Restructuring Reaches a Second US Site
Magic Leap recently moved away from building first-party devices and adopted a partner-led strategy focused on waveguide manufacturing, display systems, prototyping and device integration for companies developing AI display glasses.
The company previously told The XR Beat:
Magic Leap has sharpened our strategic focus on the areas where our expertise creates the most value across the AR ecosystem: waveguide manufacturing and device integration.
Magic Leap said the organisational changes were intended to align its workforce with those priorities, while supporting the employees affected.
Its supplier strategy centres on helping other technology companies develop AR glasses without building their own optics and manufacturing capabilities. Magic Leap SVP Scott Carden recently outlined the company’s target of bringing the complete AR display system down to $100 or less.
The two WARN notices now place the known US impact at 269 roles across Florida and California, with both rounds due to begin at the start of October.
