David Tanghe spent around 30 years working in construction before starting Tersarai, an early-stage smart glasses company shaped by problems he encountered on building sites.
Tanghe began working in construction at 15 and later managed large sites. Language barriers, missing information and repeated checks were part of the working day, particularly when teams spoke different languages or needed access to drawings away from a desk.
He believes smart glasses could help workers receive translated instructions, view guidance and capture photographs without repeatedly reaching for a phone.
Tersarai is also developing Secure View, an application intended to help construction companies check whether people on site are properly registered and authorised to work. Tanghe says the product grew from his experience of the risks faced by contractors when digital records don’t match the people physically present.
The company remains early stage and still has to prove its software across wider deployments. Its development is being guided by decades of direct experience with the jobs and pressures it wants to address.
Tanghe’s move from construction manager to founder shows how industry knowledge can help early XR companies focus on specific workplace problems from the outset.
